locust island is potentially my favorite music composition. the conception of it stems from the many, many summer nights i would spend at a nearby park. i would go, sometimes with close friends, to relish in the vast, almost supernatural feeling of our submergence in nature, illuminated by nothing more than stars and candlelight... and a lot of light pollution.

locust island was very much dedicated to that park and the feeling i so intimately associated with it. a droning distortion of an e-bow on guitar provided the necessary foundation for the many field recordings of cicadas, drum circles, the chatter of fellow park-going night dwellers, etc. i also sprinkle in many other supplementary elements like slowed down vocals, chimes, and feedback loops.

there's also an underlying narrative paired with the music, one about travis (the character seen in the little boat on the cover) going on a journey to locust island, a location promising the gift of eternal life. the plot was never fleshed out beyond that and i don't think it needs to be, but at the time i felt it added more intrigue to the experience. here's a shitty little poem i wrote that's included in the album which provides the story:

lodged deep in the trenches of time

lost somewhere along the way of their quest to live forever

a civilization of apathy

bludgeoned to death by their own ambitions

their formless remains imprisoned by this land

turn back now, my dear friend

welcome to locust island
